Vacancy: Practice Accountant

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking to recruit a Practice Accountant to join our experienced Finance team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven person to join our busy team. The role would ideally suit someone who has a passion for the legal industry, is able to prioritise and communicate effectively whilst working within a team.

As a Practice Accountant, you will assist the Head of Accounts with the production of timely and accurate monthly management accounts, annual budgets and draft annual LLP accounts for audit. You will also work with the Head of Accounts to ensure that routine day to day accounting runs smoothly and that the firm complies with SRA Solicitors Accounts Rules & Anti-Money Laundering Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of Accounts with the preparation of the Annual budgets, LLP accounts for audit and data for the SAR’s audit.
  • Prepare specific schedules for the monthly Management Accounts pack
  • Prepare month end nominal ledger reconciliations
  • Prepare the monthly payroll
  • Prepare the quarterly VAT return
  • Process Purchase Ledger invoices, payments and direct debits
  • Reconcile the office bank account
  • Process the Partners credit card transactions
  • Process fee bills as required
  • Provide back up support for the Legal cashier’s team as required
  • Resolve Proclaim and other accounts related queries
  • Assist fee earners with accounts related issues
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the firm’s policies, procedures and systems
  • Undertake any specific training courses as and when required by the firm

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Accounting technician with at least 5 years post qualification experience or a part qualified Chartered Accountant, preferably with a background of working in a busy legal practice
  • Good keyboard skills and competence of Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of SRA Solicitors Accounts Rules & Anti-Money Laundering Regulations
  • Ability to recognise potential risks to the firm that should be escalated
  • Strong organisational & time management skills

Requirements:

  • Proactive and able to use initiative
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise work
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task
