LLB Undergraduate Placement Scheme 2025

This is a fantastic opportunity if you’re keen to pursue a career in law. You won’t be ‘just a number’ – far from it. Shaun Guppy, our Training Principal, and Partner in the Corporate Team started his own career with Steele Raymond as a placement student, as did our Family Solicitor Amy Baugh. We place great importance on developing our placement students – helping them really understand more about how we apply the law for our clients, how a law firm works and the part they have to play making the firm a success.

The team, or teams, who you’ll spend the placement with, will depend on business needs at the time you join. We’ll try and take into account any particular experience you want to gain, but we’re confident whichever team you’ll join, you’ll gain great exposure to the work the team is undertaking and the clients they are working for. As a business we focus on corporate transactions, commercial contracts, commercial property, strategic land, residential development, property & commercial litigation and a full range of high-quality family and private wealth services, including wills, trusts and probate, contentious wills, trusts & probate and estate planning & tax. This means we currently have eleven teams you may have a chance of joining.

Regardless of the area you’ll gain experience within, you will be very much part of the team, being involved in client work and client meetings (supporting solicitors and partners) and, for example, undertaking research or attending court matters to learn and help take attendance notes.

The position is available to students who have secured a 2:1 in their first-year results and are predicted a 2:1 for their second year.

In addition to someone committed to a career in law, we’re looking for someone who has:

• A desire to make the most of this placement year – who has a ‘can do’ attitude, a growth mindset and a willingness to work hard to seize opportunities.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to see the wider context of the work that we do for our clients
• Great communication skills – both written and verbal.
• An understanding of what goes into fantastic customer / client service.
• High standards of professionalism.
• Great research and analytical skills
• Great time management and organisation skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
