It’s been a very busy year for our ESG committee who have gone above and beyond to drive meaningful initiatives and make a positive impact within the firm and the wider community.
We’ve introduced a range of creative activities to boost sustainability in the firm, including our Vegan Day where the office enjoyed delicious plant-based treats, and the ‘Press for Pastries’ campaign, which helped cut our overnight energy use by nearly half. Our office underwent environmental upgrades, including installing even more energy-efficient lighting, eco-friendly air fresheners, and coffee machines that eliminate single-use plastic pods.
We also launched a seed distribution programme, encouraging everyone to try their hand at growing herbs and flowers, while our office garden welcomed ‘Bugingham Palace’, a new home for pollinators.
Our fundraising efforts were a big part of the year, with ‘Splash for Cash’ seeing some brave SR employees take a cold-water plunge for charity. Therapy dogs from our charity partner, Helpful Hounds made a cute appearance during ‘Cuddle a Dog Day’, while the ‘Pet Olympics’ had us all laughing at the adorable pet submissions and enjoying a dog-themed cake sale.
Volunteering has been a big part of our year, with staff dedicating time to causes close to their hearts or joining in on firm-organised events. From helping larger organisations like the RSPCA and Monkey World to supporting local gems such as Hope for Food, everyone’s efforts have made a real difference.
Iona Murton, Trainee Solicitor in our Residential Development team and a member of our ESG committee, said: “This year has been an exciting one for the ESG committee, and it’s been a privilege to support Steele Raymond’s dedication to sustainability and community initiatives.
“Some of my personal highlights include braving a chilly dip in March for our Splash for Cash campaign, volunteering at Monkey World, and celebrating the grand opening of “Bugingham Palace,” to name just a few. It’s inspiring to see the firm become greener and more impactful with each passing year.”
We look forward to building on these efforts and making an even bigger impact in the year ahead.
