Steele Raymond advises on sale of Poole-based Intec Printing Solutions to global printing giant, Plockmatic Group

02/08/2022

Steele Raymond’s leading corporate team has advised the owner of Poole-based Intec Printing Solutions on the sale of his business to global printing developer and manufacturer Plockmatic Group for an undisclosed sum.

Established in 1989 by selling owner Ian Melville, Intec Printing Solutions has become one of the foremost international suppliers of equipment to the print and graphic art markets. From its headquarters in Poole, Dorset, and presence in the USA, the company has developed a reputation for innovation in print, serving a network of over 70 distributors and delivering state-of-the-art equipment and software to customers in over 100 countries.

Plockmatic Group, based in Stockholm, Sweden, are a global supplier of finishing solutions to both print and mailing businesses and saw the acquisition of Intec Printing Solutions as an opportunity to add a complimentary suite of technologies to their portfolio, expressing a particular interest in the South Coast firm’s proprietary ColorCut range of flatbed cutters and ColorFlare range of print embellishment and foiling machines.

Completion of the acquisition sees Intec Printing Solutions become a wholly owned subsidiary of Plockmatic Group.

Speaking on the sale, Ian Melville said:

“Having started the business focusing on Apple Macs and pre-press products back in 1989, we’ve travelled right through the printing process to our current range of post-press equipment. I can safely say that it has been a long, eventful, highly enjoyable, and, ultimately, very successful journey.

“The sale of the business to Plockmatic has come at a good time for me, for Intec Printing Solutions, and for my fantastic team. This transaction will give me the opportunity to spend more time on several charitable projects that I have been involved with, as well as enjoying some well-earned holiday time. For the business and the staff, it will provide the solid backing from a successful international manufacturer.”

The legal aspects of the sale were led by Steele Raymond partner, chairman and head of the corporate team Tim Stone, one the firm’s specialist mergers and acquisitions expert solicitors. Speaking on the transaction, Tim said:

“It is always a privilege for myself and the firm to help facilitate these types of deals. I have known Ian personally for many years and have witnessed first-hand the dedication and hard work which has gone into building a fantastic business with a truly international reach. We also received excellent support and assistance in accounting and tax related matters from PKF Francis Clark’s Poole office.

“It’s so great to be involved in another South Coast business success story – I am delighted for Ian and Plockmatic and wish them every success in the future.”

He continued:

“At Steele Raymond, we have extensive experience in dealing with mergers and acquisitions which feature an international component and, although these deals can become complex, our dedicated team of M&A expert solicitors are always able to find innovative legal solutions.”

Speaking on his experiences with Steele Raymond, Ian Melville said:

“The way in which Steele Raymond approached and managed our sale was exemplary. As is to be expected, there were considerations and critical decisions to be made along the way, but we always felt comfortable that these were taken care of and communicated effectively by their legal teams.  Having a lead partner who not only makes sure all the team delivers but also rolls his sleeves up was great.”
