Our open door policy is real

Partners and associates share time and know-how because your progress lifts everyone. You will be involved in live client work within weeks, gaining responsibility step by step while knowing a mentor is close by.

Placement students draft board minutes. Trainees negotiate clauses. You will not be an observer - you will be part of the team that solves problems for clients and learns from every decision.

“My team couldn't be more helpful. Everyone has time to explain things, and if they don't, they won't forget about it. They’ll come back to you, which is amazing as a placement student to get that level of kind of training.”

Support that keeps you moving

Frequent feedback loops, redlined documents and monthly reviews turn lessons into confidence.

“When I moved around the teams, the training was really, really good. I would go off with fee-earners and have one to one meetings with them. I would sit in client meetings. They were always there to support.”

Recognition is part of the deal

Everyone works hard and that effort is noticed. When you push yourself, your team will celebrate the result with you.

We recruit two to three trainees each September and are welcoming applications currently for a 2027 and 2028 start.

We're also recruiting for our 2026 summer vacation scheme and our 2026/27 placement year.

We're accepting applications for our training programmes starting in September 2027 and September 2028.

Each year we seek one or two enthusiastic students, keen to pursue a career in law, to join us for our 40-week LLB Undergraduate Placement Scheme, starting in September.

We have closed applications for our September 2026 placement year.

Our application process will reopen in Autumn 2026 for our September 2027 intake.

Based in our Bournemouth offices for the week of 6th July 2026, we will provide you with the opportunity to work under the guidance of experienced lawyers, to see what they do and understand more about the area of law they’re passionate about.

If you would like to apply and you are either a LLB undergraduate, or are finishing your Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL), email your covering letter, by 31 March 2026, and CV to Trainee Recruitment. Within your covering letter, you should share:

  • What excites you about gaining some work experience at Steele Raymond?
  • Why you want to choose a career in law?
  • An example where you’ve employed your can do attitude.

To ensure we can give anyone joining us a really good experience, regrettably we currently reserve our work experience placements for undergraduate students only.
