Book Club Culture

Shared language gives our teams real momentum. From Associates Day to firm-wide book clubs, people learn together, talk openly about pressure and burnout, and turn ideas into practical changes that make daily work more sustainable.
After months of planning and community engagement, the Julia’s House Great Tail Trail has drawn to a close. The large-scale fundraising initiative brought together over 40 professional artists, 45 sponsors, and 43 local schools and community groups, creating a vibrant public art trail across the BCP area.

The trail was a collaboration between Julia’s House and Wild in Art, designed to raise awareness and support for the vital care Julia’s House provides to families in the local community. Running from 5 April to 1 June, the Great Tail Trail featured 45 beautifully designed mermaid tail sculptures, positioned along the coastline and in town centres to encourage exploration while raising essential funds for the charity’s incredible work.
Each sculpture was sponsored by a local business or organisation, and visitors were able to download the Great Tail Trail app to navigate the trail, track their progress, collect rewards, vote for their favourite design, and share photos from their journey.
The trail proved a huge success with more than 5,000 people downloading the app, collectively collecting 137,819 tails and covering over 16,000 miles. Our sponsored sculpture, Dorset Hills – located just outside the Russell-Cotes Museum – was collected 1,460 times. Many sponsors also joined in by offering reward schemes for trail participants, from merchandise giveaways to unique experiences. As a firm, we pledged to donate £1 for every tail collected, rounding up our total contribution to £2,000.
To continue the legacy of the trail, we are delighted to have purchased our sponsored tail, which is now proudly displayed in our Bournemouth office. We recently welcome Caroline Attreed, Corporate Fundraiser at Julia’s House, and Mike Bartlett, the charity’s Deputy CEO, to our office to view the sculpture in its new home. They expressed their thanks for our fundraising efforts and the continued support we’ve provided throughout the initiative, and the visit also provided a great opportunity to capture a photo with the Tail.

Our involvement in the trail has been full of memorable moments – from meeting our tail artist, Laurie King, and organising a staff visit to see our sculpture, to taking part in the Race Across the Trail event and attending the auction evening to say farewell to all of the sculptures.
Jennifer Rogerson, Managing Partner, said: “We’re very proud to have supported Julia’s House through the Great Tail Trail, helping local families with children facing serious medical conditions. It’s been wonderful to celebrate local artists, explore the trail with friends and colleagues, and see our sponsored tail, ‘Dorset Hills,’ enjoyed by so many.
“The sculpture is now on full display in our Bournemouth office, a great reminder of the brilliant initiative we were able to be part of.”
