Helen Cort

Helen is a Partner in our Family Team and a Resolution Accredited Collaborative Lawyer, advising clients across Dorset and Hampshire. She supports clients at all stages of their relationship journey, from pre‑nuptial and living together agreements through to separation, divorce, financial arrangements and children matters. Her work often involves complex family finances, including high net worth assets, company structures and significant pension arrangements.

Helen has specialised in family law for nearly 20 years. She is known for her strategic approach and the way she helps clients cut through what can feel like overwhelming and highly personal situations. She brings strong analytical thinking to her work and her real strength lies in helping clients see their position more clearly, including encouraging them to step back and look at matters “through the lens of a judge”. That perspective can shift how decisions are made and often shapes better outcomes.

A committed advocate of collaborative law, Helen is a collaboratively trained lawyer and former Chair of Solent Family Law Solutions. She works with clients who want to resolve matters without asking the court to make decisions for them. The collaborative process brings both parties and their lawyers together with a shared commitment to reaching an agreed outcome, giving clients far greater control over both the process and the decisions made. Helen’s role is to lead that process – keeping discussions focused, managing complexity and maintaining progress towards a resolution that reflects the wider picture.

Her experience includes advising on a pre‑nuptial agreement involving assets in excess of £100 million, securing substantial costs recovery in financial remedy proceedings, and acting in complex children cases, including those involving serious allegations and changes of residence.

Helen is recommended by Legal 500 for her “strategic skill” and is also recognised by Doyle’s Guide and Spears 500. Alongside her client work, she contributes regularly to national family law publications and plays a key role in developing and supporting junior lawyers within the team.
