Always on the lookout for talent.
Whether you’re currently looking for a new role, thinking about a change in Firm, or even considering a career in law, or a support role in the legal profession, welcome to Steele Raymond.
Our firm is a people business. Our aim within the Firm is to have a culture which both retains our brilliant people who are enabled to thrive and are supported to reach their potential; and is a magnet for talented individuals who wish to share our values and grow with us.
In short, we want to have a firm of the very best people who love what they do and enjoy coming to work. We know keeping our people happy and in a fantastic position to deliver high quality legal services in the best way they can, naturally benefits our clients. Looking after our own team and thinking about our people experience, is thus as important as looking after our clients and the client experience.
Beyond that, we’re looking for individuals with character, who want to be part of something positive and make a difference. The firm is full of many different characters and personalities – each of us with our own idiosyncrasies. People add to our business in multiple ways. We succeed because the combination of all of our strengths creates the power and force of Steele Raymond.
If you talk to us, or come in for an interview, do ask us for examples of how our employees and partners alike have developed within the firm. We’ll be able to share lots of stories – not least of how we’ve rewarded contribution and promoted from within. Many of our partners, many of whom are now leading lawyers in the region, trained at the firm, with some starting at Steele Raymond as work placement students. Many of our employees have also trained with us, or been with us for a long time and have held various positions in the firm.
Indeed, most people within the firm could give examples of how they’ve developed in their time with the firm. Through working with fantastic clients on interesting work, to being coached by more senior colleagues, to taking advantage of the webinar subscription service we pay for, to moving from a support role, to a fee-earning role, to taking on more responsibilities. Many of our employees are also supported to study, be it studying the law, or their area of expertise, for example accounts, IT, or marketing.
Not everyone wants to progress upwards of course and that’s absolutely fine. But we work in a fast-paced environment and in a world in which there’s rapid change. It is important to us that people who work within the team have a growth mindset and an appetite to learn. We want to be at the forefront of what we do and being able to embrace change is part of us being a dynamic team.
It’s also important to us that we have honest and regular conversations in the firm about how people are feeling and how they are performing. We have bi-annual performance reviews and have in place for our solicitors, a transparent career progression framework. We are not hierarchical in our approach. Our partners pride themselves on being approachable and would rather empower and coach, than direct.
We’re always on the lookout for talented people who want to build on our success and play an exciting part in our future, helping us achieve our vision.
